Drive to Deliver Golf Tournament the Most Successful to Date!

Thanks to our 55 sponsors, silent auction donors, enthusiastic golfers, and fantastic golf committee, we are happy to share that our annual charity golf tournament raised $45,000 this year in support of seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Waterloo Region! That’s a milestone for us as we have passed our $37, 000 mark, which was our record breaking total last year.

The golfers once again loved their gifts, which included a $30 gift certificate to either King Crab Oyster Bar or King Street Trio Uptown, their choice of collapsible cooler, or car tote bag, and the sprain and sport injury spray bottle. All together the golfer gifts were valued at $96, which is more than half the cost for each golfer!

There are so many people to thank for this fantastic success, and we would like to start by thanking our Golf Committee who were instrumental in pulling this event together. Thank you Lawrence Bingeman, Lori Bordessa, Kevin Mills, John Emrich, and Dave Arjune. Also, we would like to extend a special thank you to Dennis Watson, who emceed the evening and helped us raise over $3,000 through our live auction.

Finally, we would like to thank our 55 sponsors and numerous silent auction donors for helping us reach this milestone mark. Please visit our “Generous Sponsor” page to give recognition to these great organizations who are dedicated to improving lives of seniors and adults with disabilities in our community. Thank you as well to the volunteers who came out to support us on the event day, especially the staff from Sun Life Financial – WaterlooWellington Financial Centre who helped at registration and at our specialty holes.

Here are just a few of the pictures from the day. We have posted the rest of the pictures on our Facebook page, as well as our website, so please join us there.

Stunning Silent Auction

The date for our golf tournament is rapidly approaching, and the silent auction items are starting to pile-up. Like last year, we have some fantastic items to bid on in support of our meal subsidy program, which is critical in getting needed nutrition to low-income seniors and adults with disabilities in Waterloo Region.

In fact, two of our prizes are so huge we’re offering them through a live auction hosted by our emcee Denis Watson, recently retired GM of CTVSWO. We’re facing record breaking demand for subsidies this year, so let’s be prepared to come out for a fantastic day, raise lots of money for our neighbours in need, and walk away with these exciting items:

1.   I’m leaving, on a jet plane…That’s right! You can leave on a plane to anywhere WestJet flies with a lucky someone. Hawaii, Bermuda, Barbados, Montego Bay, and Puerto Vallarta are just some of the places you can choose to go with this deal.

2.   Spoiling yourself with a fantastic day of golf and want to spoil that special lady in your life? Bringing home a gorgeous diamond heart-shaped necklace valued at $2,200 will do just the trick! Necklace generously donated by Raffi Jewellers through CTV’s Spirit of Giving Campaign.

     3.   Enjoy a night on the town with $50 in gift cards to any of the Charcoal Group’s restaurants, and then head out to the performance of your choice at DraytonEntertainment’s St. Jacob’s Playhouse.

4.   Celebrate the arrival of summer with a brand new BBQ and $200 worth of delicious food from M&M Meat Shops.

      5.   Enjoy the ultimate date-night and be inspired by THEMUSEUM’s new exhibit ADD COLOUR | A Yoko Ono Exhibition before dining out at the fantastic Peter Martin’s 20 KingStreet Restaurant across the street. Then spend a luxurious night at the newly renovated Walper Terrace Hotel in a luxurious Landmark Suite.

6.   He shoots, he scores! You too can score a Kitchener Rangers hockey jersey that has been signed by the whole team valued at $119.95.

7    7.   Be serenaded by our own Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony before heading off to enjoy a delicious meal at Sole Restaurant & Wine Bar. Nothing says romance like a fine dining and fine music.

8    8.   IT’S ALIVE! And so will you be while you’re laughing up a storm with that special someone while watching Centre in the Square’s Young Frankenstein. Enjoy a delicious meal before the raucous performance at Peter Martin’s 20 King StreetRestaurant.

       9.   Rush in to Rushes at the Waterloo Inn and enjoy a fantastic lunch for four and relish the pampering of fine cuisine, and fine ambiance. Perfect for those relaxing summer afternoons.

We’ll keep you posted on new and exciting packages as they come in, so check back again! If you have an item you would like to donate to our golf tournament, please contact Rosalind at (519) 772-8787 x 225.

Who doesn’t love a contest? Better yet, who doesn’t love two contests?

In for the Long Drive

It is hard to believe our annual 'Drive to Deliver' golf tournament is still almost 2 months away. We are quickly approaching half full for our tournament, and have already collected some exciting silent auction items (see below), with more on the way!

We have also been fortunate enough to have several of our sponsors sign on again in support of seniors and adults with disabilities in our community. All the money raised from this tournament goes to our Meal Subsidy Program, which helps to subsidize our Meals on Wheels and Community Dining programs' meals for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Thank you to these community-minded organizations for joining us again as sponsors:

Dinner Sponsor

Golfer Gift Sponsor
Lunch Sponsor

Platinum Sponsors

Hole-In-One Sponsor

Bronze Sponsors

We are able to subsidize one meal for every $2.30 we raise at this tournament. Thanks to the sponsors above, and many of our over 50 sponsors last year, we raised almost $37,000. That means we were able to subsidize over 16,000 meals! If you would like to help a senior or adult with disabilities in your community get access to needed nutrition, you can contact Rosalind Horne at (519) 772-8787 x 225 to sponsor, register, or donate to our annual golf tournament.

Stunning Silent Auction

Every year we host an exciting silent auction with fantastic items to bid on, thanks to the generosity of our community. This year is no different, and in fact, promises to be even better than last year!

Horseback riding in Montego Bay
Where would you go if you could fly anywhere WestJet flies? Las Vegas perhaps? How about Montego Bay? This is a question one of our lucky silent auction winners will have to ask themselves, because WestJet has generously donated a trip for two to anywhere they fly, which can be conveniently used out of the Waterloo Regional International Airport.

Stunning diamonds
Raffi Jewellers has also provided us with a beautiful diamond necklace valued at $2,200 seen in the photo to the right.

We already have other silent auction items that have started coming in, but you’ll have to wait until our next post to see what we will have available.  In the meantime, here’s a sampling of last year’s items to keep you guessing: Golfing for Four at Rebel Creek Golf Club, 500L Gas Card from Hogg Fuel with $50 Gift Card for A1 CarCleaning, Blackberry Torch 9800 Mobile Phone courtesy of RIM, and a Hot Air Balloon Ride for Two from CTV Southwestern Ontario.

Want your chance to bid? Call Rosalind at (519) 772-8787 x 225 or email today to book your foursome (individuals are also welcome!)
